Bombay: la pobreza y la riqueza coexisten en una ciudad | Historias Vivas | Documental HD de India
It is one of the most populated cities on the planet, with 22 million inhabitants, and according to predictions, this number will increase to 30 million by 2035. Nicknamed "Hell's Metropolis," Mumbai is a city in constant development. Millions of people live in slums situated on land highly valued by the real estate sector. How can urban planners balance the population's conflicting needs? In Dharavi, Asia's largest slum, more than a million people are crammed into its 2 km² area. But although its residents are poor, there is a lot of dynamism. Mahesh, 27, was born and raised here and would never leave. He runs a recycling plant and has about 20 employees. Dharavi's underground economy is believed to generate 800 million euros a year. But its future is uncertain, as it is located in the heart of Mumbai, a prime real estate area. Every day, new glass and concrete skyscrapers are built. With the support of the city council, real estate magnate Babulal Varma is destroying slums to build luxury apartments. As the city expands, it encroaches on the surrounding forests and natural areas, such as Sanjay Gandhi Park. The fifty leopards that live there make regular incursions into the new housing developments. They attack stray dogs, but also residents. Every year, several people die from attacks by these felines. At night, forest rangers patrol to prevent their incursions. This documentary was produced by Ligne de Front and directed by Marc de La Villardière and Manolo d'Arthuys. It premiered in 2021. --- Living Stories is home to the most incredible documentaries from around the world.
