Life In Villages of Lebanon 🇱🇧 Indian in Lebanon
I visited Barouk village in the Chouf Mountains of Lebanon, a place that sits at the crossroads of history, tradition, and religion. Surrounded by rolling green hills and the majestic Barouk Cedar Forest, the village is not only beautiful but also deeply cultural. Barouk is known as a Druze stronghold, and much of its identity is shaped by this unique religious community. The Druze faith is a monotheistic religion that emerged in the 11th century, branching out from Islam but incorporating elements of philosophy, mysticism, and ancient wisdom. The Druze are a closed community—they do not accept converts and do not publicly reveal the deeper aspects of their beliefs. In Barouk, you can see the quiet strength of the Druze identity reflected in their way of life, their traditional dress in some areas, and the strong sense of community and loyalty among families. At the same time, Maronite Christians also live in Barouk and the surrounding Chouf region, adding another layer to the village’s cultural fabric. The presence of churches alongside Druze shrines shows how Lebanon’s diversity plays out even in remote mountain villages, where different communities have coexisted for centuries. Walking through the narrow streets of Barouk, lined with stone houses with red-tiled roofs, I witnessed a snapshot of daily life—elders sitting on doorsteps talking, women carrying baskets of fresh produce, children playing in the lanes, and farmers returning from terraced fields with baskets of fruits and vegetables. The open-air market was alive with colors: apples, figs, olives, and warm loaves of bread fresh from the ovens. This video is not just about stunning mountain scenery—it is about understanding Barouk as a living village, where the traditions of the Druze, the spirituality of the Maronites, and the warmth of rural Lebanese hospitality come together.
