How to Start Playing Jazz Standards on Piano!
This lesson focuses on how to get started with playing arrangements of jazz standards on the piano. It is based on the first principle taught in Mark Levine's Jazz Piano Book (which I highly recommend as a jazz piano reference book). Please consider using the "Super Thanks" tip jar if you find these lessons useful. It helps to support me to make videos more frequently. Prerequisites for this lesson - basic knowledge of 7th chords and what 3rds,5ths,7ths etc are. I have a video on how to construct all types of 7th chords here: • Beginner's guide to Jazz Piano Chords - Al... This lesson is broken down into 3 stages - playing through a tune with 3 note voicings, then adding the melody, and then finally adding other notes/extensions to those voicings. We use John Coltrane's Lady Bird to demonstrate, but you should try applying these methods to other tunes in the Real Book. I hope you enjoy this lesson and find it helpful, please let me know what you thought of it in the ocmments! My other channel / @osmusic1986 Instagram / ollyjazzpiano
