CASTLE RISING - A Norman Castle Fit For a Queen
#medieval #castle #norfolk #norman Castle Rising was built around 1140 by William d'Aubingy, an Anglo-Norman noble. The castle is probably most famous for being the place Queen Isabella, the She-Wolf of France, 'retired' to after her fall from power following the death of her husband, Edward II, at Berkeley Castle. The castle is a fantastic example of a hall keep, bearing similarities in design to Henry I's keep at Norwich, and the castle's extensive earthworks are some of the most impressive we've seen! For upcoming events at the castle, check out here - http://www.castlerising.co.uk/events/ For those of you interested in Edward II's life and mysterious death, including Isabella and Roger Mortimer's temporary rule of England, check out historian Kathryn Warner's blog, it's incredibly well-written, interesting, and addictive!- http://edwardthesecond.blogspot.com/ (and not at all sponsored by Kathryn Warner, but her book 'Long Live the King: The Mysterious Fate of Edward II' is a must for any history lover's reading list and available from Amazon :D) To plan your castle trips, check out our website here - https://www.govisitcastles.com/ Music by GVC and Fireside tales http://www.darrencurtismusic.com Medieval Song Village Consort • Medieval Song Village Consort [No Copyrigh...
