The size of clasp purses varies greatly depending on the clasp, so you can't make one without a pattern that matches the clasp... Prepare a piece of paper slightly larger than the desired size of the purse. 2. Fold it in quarters. 3. Draw a pencil line along the fold. 4. Open the clasp and align its center with the center of the cross. → Align the ball (twist) and hinge (rivet) with the cross. 5. Hold it still and trace around it with a pencil. → Hold the pencil at a right angle and trace slightly inside the edge of the clasp. → When drawing, it's okay to only draw on the left half, as shown here. → If you draw it outside the clasp, the purse will be larger, and it may not fit snugly into the clasp later. 6. Draw a line for the clasp width. → The line drawn perpendicular to the rivet is the width. 7. Determine the clasp height (depth). → In my experience, a depth about twice or 2.3 times the clasp height looks best. 8. Determine the clasp gusset. → Since this sample is 30mm, I'll make it half that, 15mm. → Draw a line 15mm to the left of the clasp width line. 9. Determine the shape of the arch of the clasp. → Find the apex of the curve of the clasp. 10. Use a compass to align the apex of the curve with the distance to the rivet and draw an arc. 11. Mark where the arc you drew with the compass intersects with the gusset line. → This intersection is where you stop sewing. 12. Adjust the fullness of the purse. → Don't cut it vertically from mark 11, but connect it to the point where the width line and depth line intersect. 13. Add a seam allowance. → I measure 7mm and draw the outer perimeter. 14. Use a ruler to measure the seam allowance, mark it, and tie it. 15. Fold the pattern in half from the center and cut along the seam allowance with scissors. → The right half has no outline, so draw an outline accordingly. The pattern introduced here requires two pieces of outer and inner fabric. This is useful when the top and bottom of the fabric patterns match. You can use this with plain fabric, or you can fold the bottom seam of the pattern and cut the inner and outer fabric pieces separately, symmetrically. Since you can create a variety of designs for clasp purses by changing the angle, width, and length of the lines, I highly recommend trying it out yourself!
