This is Île Ijwi aka IDJWI ISLAND! A small, beautiful island, a hidden gem, on Lake Kivu in Eastern Congo. I embarked on this special journey to eastern Congo with some very special women for the initiative of Drink Congo Coffee. This trip was very special because if you're not familiar with the political issues that have been going on in Eastern Congo for decades, it was a risky trip that taught us so much about resilience and perseverance. There's a lot of work to be done in the specialty coffee industry in Congo and in Congo overall, and it may take decades before we even see any changes, but we remain hopeful.
