A Quiet Solo Canoe Expedition in Sweden – Lake Rogen day 1

Day one of an eight-day solo canoe journey through Sweden’s Lake Rogen Nature Reserve — a remote and rugged wilderness of small lakes, rocky shorelines, and long portages. I began the trip at Käringsjön, setting off in a Bergans Ally canoe that I had bought in Norway and assembled for the very first time the day before. There’s nothing quite like committing to a long journey in an untested canoe to sharpen the senses. The day was spent moving between a series of small lakes, with five portages in total — three of them mercifully short — making for a steady but manageable start. The weather stayed unsettled throughout, overcast and heavy, with rain and wind never far away. I made camp early at a simple fire pit by the water’s edge and cooked entrecôte and potatoes, finishing just in time as the forecast rain finally arrived. A quiet, cautious first day — easing into the rhythm of life on the water. #LakeRogen #Sweden #SoloCanoe #WildernessAdventure #OutdoorAdventure #Expedition
