Only 29 women work as firefighters for the Cologne Fire Department. But why is that? Are the requirements too high? RTL reporter Franca Pörsch wants answers and therefore spends two days shadowing the Cologne Fire Department. There, she has the opportunity to speak with Jessica Freywald, now a fire chief, who recalls that the first hurdle before joining the fire department was in her own mind. More precisely, she means: "that you had to develop the imagination to see yourself as suitable for the job of a firefighter." The public image of a female firefighter was not widespread then, and still isn't today, she explains. One thing the RTL reporter quickly realizes: You have to be in top physical condition to work for the fire department.
