Story Teller was a series of magazines published by Marshall Cavendish from December 1982 and throughout 1983 as a fortnightly part-work. Each magazine contained a selection of children's stories from traditional folk tales to contemporary works written especially for the series. It also included poems. The stories were accompanied by lavish colour artwork and an audio cassette tape featuring music, sound effects and narration by professional actors and celebrities of the time, including Richard Briers, Sheila Hancock, Derek Jacobi, and Nigel Lambert. Hello, I was part of the team that originally digitised the ‘Complete Story Teller Digital Collection’ in about 2005. During the pandemic in 2020 I decided to produce some videos which present these wonderful stories in the best possible quality. These videos take me a long time to produce. The digital restoration process involves: Magazine scan restoration: -JPEG artifact removal. -Gutter shadow removal. -Removal of spots and scanned page damage. -Colour restoration. -White balance adjustment. -Restored faded text by increasing the black level. -Centrefold stitching and repair. -Scratch and dust removal. -Edge repair. -Angle correction (straightening the page scans). -Upscaling. Audio: -Audio dropout repair. -Wow & Flutter reduction (variations in playback speed can cause warbling which is noticeable on sustained musical instruments or the Ping!) -Noise reduction. -Ground loop hum removal. -De-click. -De-ess (sibilance reduction). -Distortion reduction. -Azimuth correction. -Panning instability adjustment. -Gentle dynamic compression. -Some EQ adjustments. -Top and tail tidy-up.
