Is This Bodyguard Tactic Too Violent for a Knife Attack?
Real knife attacks often happen at point-blank distance, where there may be no time to create distance, establish a perfect shooting stance, or use clean range techniques. In this video, I analyze a real police bodycam knife attack in which an officer fired repeatedly at extremely close range, yet the attacker continued fighting until a second officer intervened. The incident demonstrates why firearm stopping power is frequently misunderstood and why realistic close quarters combat training must include striking, weapon protection, posture, movement, and firearm retention. This video covers both unarmed knife defense and an armed close-range response. You will learn: Point-blank knife attack defense Close quarters combat against an edged weapon Why firearm rounds may not immediately stop an attacker How posture affects survival during a knife assault How to redirect the attacking arm Straight punches and check hooks at close range Heavy bag drills for realistic self defense training Close-contact firearm retention How to protect your firearm from being grabbed Muzzle strikes and close-contact shooting positions Police defensive tactics Bodyguard and executive protection training Armed and unarmed responses under pressure The police officer in this incident was trapped against a barrier while the attacker disrupted his posture and continued attacking with a knife. Simply firing the weapon did not immediately solve the problem. That is why law enforcement officers, bodyguards, executive protection agents, armed security professionals, CCW holders, and civilians need to train beyond traditional range shooting. Range accuracy matters, but point-blank combat also requires: Physical fighting ability Weapon retention Close-contact shooting Aggressive posture recovery Striking power Protecting vital areas Maintaining control under extreme pressure The unarmed portion of this video demonstrates a simple redirect, straight punch, and check-hook combination that can disrupt the attacker, damage his posture, and create an opportunity to escape or transition to another response. The armed portion demonstrates why presenting a firearm directly in front of a close attacker may allow him to grab or redirect it. Instead, I show a protected close-contact position designed to conceal the firearm, maintain weapon retention, shield vital areas, and respond from inside the reactionary gap. This is not sport shooting or fantasy martial arts. It is realistic self defense training based on close quarters combat, police defensive tactics, bodyguard training, executive protection experience, firearm retention, heavy bag drills, and pressure-tested movement. No technique is guaranteed. Train safely, use appropriate protective equipment, follow all firearm safety rules, and understand the laws governing self defense and use of force in your jurisdiction.
