After Another Warm Weather Slow Down!! Another First Step Back!!

Another Summer of hot weather conditions, coupled with widespread low water levels, have decreased the number of outings by locals on the area waterways. We initially intended going back out from our ole standby launch at Gaudet's, but the reported low area water levels suggested we instead head to an area with deeper waterways. We chose to head farther down Hwy. 70 to navigate the deeper intersecting canal systems west of Hwy. 70 and N/W of Flat Lake. Launched at Doiron's, Spillway side, went North up the Intracoastal and West toward the Shell Oil canals. Found improving water conditions in a few canals. One canal showed active fish and clear bait fish concentrations. Did not find fish stacked in any area. Started catching an assortment of scattered fish in a canal that averaged 8' to 10' deep. The fish activity was well accompanied by the resident garfish. Sacalait caught reacted best to downsized 1/32oz. hand tied hair jigs. After a later than normal start time and the now shorter days, we chose to wrap things up as the bayou's mosquito squadron began their evening patrols. Another fine outing, enjoying our South Louisiana Bayou Paradise!!
