ARCHI URBAIN (18/13) : Eduardo Souto de Moura

During the "Lunch with an Architect" architecture series hosted by Nathalie Zalcman and Kathleen Iweins, Mister Emma met with Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura. The 2011 Pritzker Prize winner studied sculpture before turning to architecture at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Porto. He embodies the "Porto School," formed by the emblematic figures of Fernando Távora and Álvaro Siza, which combines rigor and freedom—two approaches to construction that are difficult to reconcile, yet which the Portuguese practice with brilliance. Távora had been his teacher, but it was under Siza that he honed his skills in 1974, before embarking on his solo career in 1980.
