CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF ONESMUS MUSYOKI MATIVO (MWALIMU)

EULOGY EARLY LIFE Onesmus was born on 4 November 1964 in Makakoi Village, Kimutwa Location, Machakos County. He was the 3rd born to the late Mativo Kituu and Beth Mbeni Mativo of Mua hills. His siblings were; Mbithe, Mutuku, Makumi, Ngina, Mutinda, Mutava, Munee and Nzilani. Musyoki was to brother; DK. Mativo, James, late Kimulu, late Kilonzo, Musau, Mutua, Mua, Kasomba, Kioko, Muli, Malinda, Loise, Agnes, Serah, Ruth, Virginia, Jane, Joyce, Esther, Ndinda and Irene. Uncle to Mwende, Bob, Michelle, Rehema, Matei, Erick, Peter, Neema, Kyalo, Irene, Lucy, Kasia, Mercy, Mativo, Stacy, Vera, Natalie, Joshua, Beth, Tony and Mercy Mbithe among others. Brother in law to Cecilia, Margaret, Florence, Joyce, Scolastica, Mary, Elizabeth, Jemimah, Anna, Kathini, Dorcus, Nelson, Samson, Charles, Mulindo, Mwangi, Pst Willy, Patrick, Muteti, Prof Ngui, Pst. Sam Kimatu, Pst Jacob Zipporah, Wayua, Munini among others. SCHOOL LIFE Musyoki started his early education in Mua Community School Nursery before he transferred to Mua Farm Primary School in 1971-73 and later to Kamuthanga Primary till 1979. He attended his high school in Tala High School 1980-83. He furthered his professional training in Kilimambogo Teachers Training College, Goibei Christian Education Collage and Kenya Insitute of Special Education (KISE). WORK LIFE Onesmus started teaching as a untrained teacher primary school teacher in Muri Farm, Mananja, Murang’a County in 1984, before joining Kilimambogo TTC. He worked in various schools as teacher and headteacher in the following schools; Mung’ala, Kasaini, Katelembu, Kwakitaa, Kyasila and his last work place was Metuma Primary School. As a teacher, mwalimu taught many students and mentored many upcoming teachers in his teaching career spaning about 38 years. MARRIAGE LIFE Musyoki married the love of his life Ann Mbete Kimatu in 1993. They were blessed with two sons Alex Makau and Felix Musyoka. They lived and worked well together as professionals and a couple, engaging in farming activities along side their professions. However, in 2009 tragedy struck the family when he lost his wife through sudden death. He has been living well with his sons who were very supportive to till the last moments of his life. CHRISTIAN LIFE Musyoki grew up in African Inland Church (A.I.C) Kaseve and Kyasila. He attended Sunday School together with his siblings they participated in many church activities, choir, youth and battalion among others. He was baptized on 19th March 1979. He got married through christian marriage in Kyasila A.I.C and subsequently continued participating with his family in church activities. He transfered to A.I.C Kwa Mumama and later JVCC Kyasila. Onesmus furthered his Christian training in Goibe Christian teacher’s training college where he graduated with a certificate in religious education. HEALTH Onesmus lived a generally good healthy life until 2020 when he was diagnosed with Gallstones condition which caused him to be hospitalized and later was discharged. On July 10th this year he suddenly fell seriously sick while at work and had to be rushed to Machakos and thereafter to Nairobi West, KNH and lastly in Coptic Hospital. Cumulatively he was in and out of ICU for six weeks. The doctors and family members did their best to support him and unfortunately passed on early hours of morning on 21 August 2023.
