Half Of Filipino Students Face Bullying. Why Can't The Philippines Stop It? | Insight
The Philippines has some of the highest reported rates of school bullying in the world — and among the worst in Southeast Asia. OECD PISA studies found that around half of Filipino students reported being bullied regularly, more than double the OECD average and significantly higher than rates reported in neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. As physical abuse, social humiliation and cyberbullying spread through classrooms and smartphones, millions of children are struggling with fear, trauma and isolation. Research shows that bullying "undermines student achievement and could cost the country up to PHP20 billion (US$324m) in annual economic losses".
