In the previous episode, I visited Kowloon Walled City Park with a friend who used to live in the Kowloon Walled City. As we strolled through the park, she shared some stories from back in the day — little things that gave me a glimpse of what life was like inside. In this episode, we hit the streets of Kowloon City. We took it slow, wandering around and soaking in the atmosphere at our own pace. We stopped by a few places — a halal restaurant I absolutely love, a stationery shop my friend used to go to as a kid, and a small soybeen pudding shop that’s full of heart. You can really taste the care that goes into their sweets. And we even swung by one of the filming locations from the movie Twilight of the Warriors：Walled in. Kowloon City used to sit right next to the old Kai Tak Airport, and back then, the whole area was full of energy. Planes flew incredibly low overhead — it was loud, dramatic, and honestly, kind of thrilling. That thunderous roar may have been overwhelming, but the city itself was just as powerful — alive, vibrant, unstoppable. But ever since the airport moved, the neighborhood started to change. These days, Kowloon City is one of the largest redevelopment zones in Hong Kong. In many ways, it’s become a symbol of a city in transition. But Kowloon City is more than just redevelopment. It’s home to a large Chiu Chow and Thai community, with tons of amazing restaurants. It’s one of Hong Kong’s best-known foodie districts — if you want great food, this is where you go. From Chiu Chow classics to Thai street eats, the choices are endless. Still, with redevelopment moving fast, I can’t help but wonder: what will happen to this diverse, vibrant community in the future? That’s why I filmed this — to capture a little piece of Kowloon City as it is right now.
