Hopes for a return to Kuşkonar Village in Şırnak, which was abandoned in 1994, have been rekindled. Approximately 40 families, primarily from Mersin and other provinces, have set up tents and settled in their village, while an official application has been submitted to the Governorship for a larger return encompassing 400 households. Residents of Kuşkonar Village, who were forced to leave their village due to security events in Şırnak in 1994, have taken a significant step towards returning to their birthplace after many years. Citizens living in various provinces such as Mersin, Adana, and Gaziantep have officially initiated the return process to establish a permanent life in their village. The villagers have submitted an official application to the Şırnak Governorship Provincial Special Administration and the Project Coordination Center Village Return Office Directorate for the Village Return and Rehabilitation Project (KDRP) to make the village habitable again. Official Request for Infrastructure and Housing Works In the application, the state's positive obligations under the KDRP (Village Development Project) legislation were reminded, and it was requested that the village's infrastructure, superstructure, and urban development works be started without delay. The villagers requested the completion of the road that will provide access to the village, the preparation of settlement areas, and the implementation of electricity, drinking water, and other basic services. 40 Families Begin Settling in the Village by Setting Up Tents Last week, approximately 40 families, consisting of women, children, and the elderly, left their lives in Mersin and came to Kuşkonar Village with the aim of making a permanent return. However, since access to the village settlement area has not yet been provided, the citizens have started to live by setting up tents in an area approximately 3 kilometers from the village. The villagers are waiting for the completion of the existing road and the leveling of the areas where houses will be built with construction machinery. Target: 400 Households to Re-settle in the Village The villagers stated that if the necessary infrastructure works are completed, approximately 400 households are ready to return to Kuşkonar Village. The goal is to establish a planned village by creating plots in the prepared settlement area. Thus, the aim is to revive the village after many years and to start agricultural production again. "We longed for the smell of our soil" 67-year-old Ali Borak, a resident of the village, expressed his feelings by saying that they returned to their homeland after years of longing: "We lived here for about 23 years. Then we had to live in metropolises. We came back to benefit from the Return to Village Project. We set up about 40 tents. We longed for the smell of our soil. We lived through very difficult days for about 40 years. Today we are very happy to be in our own village again." Borak stated that they are waiting for the completion of approximately 3 kilometers of the road providing access to the village, and said: "We want our road to be built. After the road reaches the village, we request that a large area be cleared. We will create a settlement area for approximately 400 households. We will divide this area into parcels and establish a planned village. We are waiting for asphalt roads, electricity, and other infrastructure services. We ask for support from our esteemed Governor. May our state prosper. We believe that our state will be with us." Expectations are growing within the scope of the Village Return and Rehabilitation Project The villagers expect hundreds of families to return to Kuşkonar Village with the start of infrastructure investments to be made within the scope of the Village Return and Rehabilitation Project in a short time. With the completion of the planned works, it is aimed to both revitalize the village and for agriculture and animal husbandry to contribute to the regional economy again.
