Corvera reforma carril bici y estrena circuito saludable

The Corvera Town Council has opened the new bike lane and fitness circuit, built as part of the Sustainable Mobility Plan. This project, fully funded by European funds, complements the recently expanded Finnish track, which is now open to the public. The three infrastructures form a continuous route designed to promote active mobility, sports, and sustainable travel in the Prao de la Fiesta area. The Mayor of Corvera, Iván Fernández, and the Government Delegate in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, visited the new facilities this morning. Their construction represents an investment of €375,000, financed entirely by European funds. This funding was secured by the Town Council as part of its strategy to promote transformative projects without impacting municipal coffers. The new bike lane is the first cycling infrastructure in the municipality. It has a length of 891 linear meters and an area of ​​2,140 square meters, linking the Los Campos Renfe train stop with the Avilés city limits, where it connects with the existing bike path in Villalegre. In this way, Corvera joins the region's cycling network, promoting more sustainable and safer travel. The project also includes a new fitness circuit, designed to extend the Finnish track by following a perimeter route around the festival grounds. It is 495 linear meters long, has an area of ​​1,485 square meters, and an average width of three meters. "These 495 meters are added to the 834 meters of the Finnish track, giving a total circuit length of 1,329 meters," explained the Mayor. Its aggregate surface maintains the same appearance and functionality as the Finnish track, incorporating curbs along the sides to contain the material. The route is equipped with 16 new lights, the same model as those installed on the Finnish track, distributed along its entire length, with particular emphasis on enhancing the lighting in the area that previously formed a dead end. The circuit has been specifically designed for sports and does not include pedestrian traffic, as the surrounding area already has several paved sidewalks that ensure safe pedestrian movement. During the visit, the mayor highlighted that "today we are completing a project that we have been implementing in phases and that transforms the Prao de la Fiesta area into one of the main spaces for active mobility in the municipality. The bike lane and the fitness circuit complete a project that, together with the Finnish track, creates a continuous route for walking, running, or cycling in a safe and accessible environment." Iván Fernández also emphasized that the implementation of these improvements is fully compatible with the celebration of the Corvera Festival. “From the outset, we maintained that this project would not reduce the space or functionality of the Prao de la Fiesta (Festival Grounds), and today we can see that it was possible to reconcile both. Corvera gains infrastructure that can be enjoyed year-round without having to give up celebrating our festivals here with the same normalcy as always.” The mayor also emphasized the effort made by the City Council to secure the necessary funding for this project. “Obtaining European funds requires significant technical work, planning, and management skills. Thanks to this effort, we have managed to finance an investment of €375,000 entirely with European resources, allowing us to provide Corvera with modern, high-quality infrastructure at no cost to the municipal coffers.” The official visit also served to highlight the impact that European funds are having on the transformation of municipalities, enabling projects that improve citizens' quality of life, promote healthy habits, and contribute to moving towards a more sustainable mobility model. With the commissioning of the bike lane and the health circuit, the City Council completes the actions planned in the area of ​​Prao de la Fiesta within its Sustainable Mobility Plan, creating a reference space for outdoor sports and active travel that connects the three infrastructures that make up this project.
