In 1993, ETB broadcast an interview with Floren Aoiz, spokesperson for Herri Batasuna, conducted by José María Calleja, Iñaki Gómez, and Aintzane Bolinaga. Herri Batasuna complained about the interview's alleged bias and aggressiveness. Calleja received numerous threats. In 2012, Calleja recalled the interview: "In an interview on ETB, I asked Floren Aoiz, who was then the spokesperson for Herri Batasuna, if he knew how many people the terrorist group ETA had murdered, and he said he didn't. So I told him how many they had murdered and that it was information he should know. At the end of the interview, this guy said to me, 'Comrade, this was an ambush,' to which I replied that I wasn't his comrade and that 'ambush' was a military term, and he knew why he was using it." "I was probably too aggressive. I asked the HB representative if he knew how many people ETA, the organization he supported, had killed, and apparently he didn't know."
