And when the seventh month came, and the children of Israel were in their cities, all the people gathered together as one man in the square before the Water Gate; And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel. 2. So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could understand, on the first day of the seventh month. 4. Ezra the scribe stood on a wooden platform that had been made for that purpose. Standing beside him on his right were Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; on his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam. 5. Then Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.
