Russia Falls Into Chaos As Ukraine Unleashes Relentless Strikes

Ukraine continues its relentless campaign against Russia's energy infrastructure, launching fresh strikes on the Afipsky Refinery in Krasnodar Krai and oil facilities in Bashkortostan. Explosions were also reported near Vladimir Putin's palace outside Gelendzhik on the Black Sea, as Ukraine expands the range and intensity of its long-range drone campaign. On the seas, Russia's losses continue to mount. Ukraine destroyed another 11 Russian vessels operating in the Black and Azov Seas, while a Russian naval ship was sunk overnight in the Black Sea. In another incident, Russian air defenses once again targeted a residential neighborhood while attempting to intercept Ukrainian drones. The economic consequences are becoming increasingly severe. Russia's refining industry has fallen to its lowest output since the 1990s, while China has cut purchases of Russian oil by 41%. Grain exports have dropped 20% as farmers struggle to obtain diesel fuel needed for harvesting, raising fears for Russia's agricultural sector. Russian consumers are also feeling the pain. State television is now acknowledging dramatic food price increases, the country's largest sausage producer has announced 4,000 layoffs, and public transportation systems outside Moscow are beginning to shut down because of fuel shortages. In another sign of the growing crisis, Vladimir Putin signed a decree classifying data on Russia's aviation fuel sector. The Kremlin is also ramping up its propaganda campaign. State media has begun releasing carefully staged videos showing fully stocked gas stations and smiling motorists despite widespread reports of shortages and long queues. At the same time, Russian authorities blocked access to Google, Apple, and other major online services, while the Russian Orthodox Church launched a campaign warning young people against "revolutionary thinking." Meanwhile, Ukraine made further gains near Mala Tokmachka, pushing Russian forces from their positions. Russian commentators are now openly calling for civilians to be armed to shoot down Ukrainian drones, highlighting the growing sense of insecurity across the country. International pressure on Moscow continues to build. China appears to be preparing for a post-Putin future, the United States is moving toward a vote on a major new sanctions package targeting Russia, and Ukrainian aircraft took part in France's Bastille Day celebrations. Even Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov publicly appealed to Washington, urging the United States to make Ukraine "stop being mean" to Russia. As Ukraine's strikes deepen and Russia's economic and logistical problems continue to grow, the Kremlin faces mounting pressure on multiple fronts.
