It is dedicated to Subrahmanya Swamy and is also known as Kerala Palani or Dakshina Palani (Southern Palani). It is believed that the temple was established even before the advent of Kali Yuga. It is the largest Subrahmanya Swami Temple in Kerala with the longest golden flagpost, or dhwajastambha (kodimaram in Malayalam). It is widely believed that Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu also reside in the idol, and thus the deity is considered extremely powerful. The temple has four gopurams. It has a golden flag mast on eastern side. The temple's sanctum sanctorum is round in shape. The temple compound also hosts a Koothambalam (the third largest of its kind among Kerala temples). Peacocks, Murugan's vahana, are protected and housed in the temple premises.[6] The temple pond, popularly known as Perumkulam is one of the largest temple ponds in Kerala, stretching over about five acres. Festival In Haripad Subrahmanya Temple There are many annual festivals celebrated in this temple. The Avani Utsavam in Chingom (August- September), Markazhi Utsavam in Dhanu (November- December), Chitra Utsavam in Medom (April-May), Kartika in Vrischikam (November- December) and Taipuyam (January- February) are the important festivals of the Haripad Temple.In addition to three " kodiyetams" " thrikkarthika" in vrichikam are also celebrated. In this festival all devotees surround the temple will light karthika deepam ( lighting lamp ) and make "karppora azhi" Haripad is a town in Alappuzha District, Kerala, India, located between Alappuzha and Kollam .Haripad is known as the 'Town of Temples'.
