July 24: Saint Charbel Makhlouf: He Died at the Altar, His Body Stayed Incorrupt

Saint Charbel Makhlouf: He Died at the Altar, His Body Stayed Incorrupt 🕯️ A lamp burned with water between his hands, and the silence of a monk reached all the way to Rome. Did you know that a monk who spent twenty-three years almost unseen became, after his death, one of the most visited saints in the Middle East? Saint Charbel Makhlouf never wrote a single line or founded a religious order. He was born in the highest village in Lebanon, became a hermit on a mountain of stone and snow, and today millions of pilgrims — Christians and Muslims alike — climb every year to his tomb at the monastery of Annaya. In this video you'll discover: 🏔️ How an orphaned shepherd boy from Bekaa Kafra found God in a mountain grotto, before he could even explain who Christ was. ⛪ Why in 1851 he gave up his name, his family, and his homeland to become Brother Charbel of the Lebanese Maronite Order. 🕯️ What the memory of Annaya still tells about the lamp filled with water that burned like oil in his hands. ✝️ How he died at the altar on December 24, 1898, and what the exhumation of his body revealed months later. The life of Saint Charbel Makhlouf shows that a life given over in silence, without recognition or words, can become a sign of hope for entire generations: in 2025, Pope Leo XIV knelt at his tomb, one hundred twenty-seven years after his death. His feast is celebrated every July 24.
