Today we'll visit one of the most beautiful and unusual places in Zaporizhzhia—Partizanska Ravine, which on old maps is known as Kaidatskaya Ravine. Our journey will begin at the Holy Protection Church and the legendary former Zaporizhzhya Oak. We'll then travel along the picturesque ravine to the unique granite tunnels built in 1902 during the time of the Catherine the Great Railway with the help of residents of Aleksandrovsk and Mennonites. We'll visit all five tunnels: three narrow ones with oval vaults (Nos. 1, 2, and 5) and two wide ones with round vaults (Nos. 3 and 4). The widest tunnel (No. 3) is sometimes popularly called the "Tank Tunnel." You'll see rare architectural structures from the early 20th century, ancient granite masonry, atmospheric tunnels, ancient granite rock outcrops, and stunning natural beauty along both banks of the Verkhnia Khortytsia River source.
