Şahin Kayası, Kayacık district, Akhisar, Manisa. Evliya Çelebi's "Travel Book". FALCON ROAD CASTLE: My friends, for thirty-two years I've traveled the land of eighteen sultanates. I've never seen such a high mountain. It's so named because it's surrounded by falcons' nests. But in the Greek history of Yeniuan, this rock is called Petromir. It was the pasture of a female king named Edmir. On its gate is a depiction of a fairy-faced woman. It's such a mountain that its counterpart is Mount Suphan on the shores of Lake Van. There are 3,050 steps to the top of this rock. You climb to the very top by winding around the rock. You can't climb by horse, mule, or donkey. But a few of my humble men and I wrapped our skirts around our waists and climbed up from there, gazing out at the vibrant landscape. The Mediterranean Sea loomed like a carpet in the seven mansions to the west. Only blue clouds or flying birds can obscure this high peak! There are no people here. The palaces of the Kıdefa and İzmir kings look as if they were recently built, and there are water cisterns. Three fir trees grow right on the hill. Apart from these, there's nothing but snakes and centipedes. Then we got off from here and went down the hill for 4.5 hours west.
