ಹೊಯ್ಸಳರ ಆಡಳಿತ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ | The Hoysala Administrative System | Hoysalas: The Eternal Legacy | EP-03
Episode 3 – The Hoysala Statecraft: Power, Governance, and Legacy Before the Hoysalas established an independent kingdom, they had already gained administrative experience under the Gangas of Talakad, the Rashtrakutas, and the Kalyani Chalukyas. This helped them develop a strong system of governance rooted in royal authority, ministerial guidance, military organization, revenue management, and provincial administration. In this episode, we explore how the Hoysala state functioned — from the power of the king and the role of queens in administration to the influence of royal preceptors, the Pancha Pradhanas, treasury officials, military officers, feudatories, Mandalikas, and village-level institutions. The Hoysala system reflected the ancient Indian ideal of kingship: “Punish the wicked, protect the virtuous.” While the king remained the supreme authority, inscriptions show that officials at various levels actively participated in the machinery of governance. This episode covers: • The royal authority of the Hoysala kings • The administrative role of Hoysala queens • Rajagurus and their influence • The Pancha Pradhanas and central administration • Treasury and revenue management • Military organization • Provincial administration through Mandalas, Nadus, and villages • The legacy of Hoysala governance The Hoysala Empire was not only known for its magnificent temples and art, but also for a well-organized administrative system that helped shape medieval Karnataka.
