Eröffnung des Naturparks Rothaargebirge 1964 | FILMSCHÄTZE

Almost 60 years ago, on October 30, 1964, the Rothaargebirge Nature Park in Laasphe opened its doors! The idyllic park was primarily intended as a recreational area for people from the nearby Ruhr region, which was already struggling with air pollution at the time. Therefore, then-Federal President Heinrich Lübke emphasized the increasing environmental pollution and the growing importance of environmental protection in his opening speech. In addition to numerous celebratory speeches, Laasphe also celebrated the opening with flag-raising and a group hike through the Wittgenstein countryside. In this film treasure from 1964, three young amateur filmmakers capture the days before, during, and after the celebration. Here you can see a slightly shortened and narrated version of the original film. In the "Film Treasures" series, we publish selected documentaries, short films, and amateur films from past decades in full length on YouTube. A characteristic of the film selection is that the "Film Treasures" focus on topics from Westphalia, examine them from the perspective of their origins, and convey a certain period flavor.
