The Wounds We Love From: Therapist Bashea Williams on Why We Choose the Wrong Partners
What’s good Revolutionaries! In this episode of What's Your Revolution? I sit down with therapist and author of the 'Dear Future Wife' Paul Bashea Williams for one of the most honest conversations I've had about Black men, relationships, rest, fatherhood, trauma, and the difficult work of becoming healthy enough to love someone well. This conversation stayed with me long after the cameras stopped rolling because I saw parts of my own journey reflected in Paul's story. We talked about how our unhealed wounds can quietly influence the people we choose, why so many of us confuse being needed with being loved, and how healing begins when we're willing to examine ourselves before asking someone else to love us. What struck me most was this: healthy relationships don't begin when you meet the right person they begin when you do the work to become whole. We also explored the weight many Black men carry, the pressure to fix everything and everyone, and why giving ourselves permission to rest, set boundaries, and seek healing isn't weakness, it's wisdom. If you've ever found yourself repeating the same relationship patterns, carrying burdens that were never yours, or wondering what it really means to love from a place of wholeness, I believe this conversation will speak to you. I hope it challenges you as much as it challenged me. 🎙️ Watch now and join the revolution.
