Ricercata (Albani manuscripts)

Ricercata - Albani MS STUNNING ricercar from Albani’s collection, perhaps composed by the Cavaliere del Liuto (Vincenzo Pinti) under whom Orazio Albani studied. Pinti was one of the most famous lutists of Rome c.1600 and a bit earlier, but did not want his works to be circulated, and they were not published often, but it is known that he was a fine composer at the level of Severino and Molinaro. What a treasure to have this manuscript from one of his students, even though he would have not liked for the works to have been shared. I think the solo spagna setting is by Pinti as well. It’s not just any spagna, but quite a composition (as is the spagna duo…certainly well beyond the ones in Siena).
