Phantasialand - Gondelbahn 1001 Nacht - Onride 2001 († Abgerissen 2009)
A ride on the former Goldelbahn "1001 Nights" in the Phantasialand/Brühl, Germany in the year 2001. This is a theme cruise, which was opened in 1970, only 3 years after the opening of the park. The gondola lift was the first stationary dark ride in Germany. The gondola route was changed at the end of the tub ride and also changes were made again and again. So the gondolas drove at the beginning individually, but later each three gondolas together. Electronic gantry clearance checks have also been developed. At the beginning, the use cost extra, so it was not included in the park entrance. The music of the British "Mike Batt" came later and came from the movie "The Lord of the Caravan". The theme area of the gondola, together with the Oriental Café, was the Orient theme, which later did not include any other attractions apart from the gondola itself, and which disappeared completely from the park after the closure in 2009. The station was located on the ground floor inside a cave above which hung a water-spouting skull. After leaving the station, the gondolas drove a first part outside over the waltz room (formerly tub ride) and through a dragon mouth into the interior of the cave. Inside, scenes from the Tales of the Thousand and One Nights, such as Ali Baba, with animatronics, were seen. Shown were legendary figures such as a Cyclops, the fight with a dragon and the legend bird Rok, also a Buddha statue. In the larger scenes were camels, dancing women, treasures and several other people to see. Both at the beginning and at the end the passengers passed through a larger stalactite cave. Due to the free suspension of the gondolas on the gearbox, it was in the curves that they swung slightly. In view of the longstanding difficulties in the expansion process, the Phantasialand was forced to demolish the attraction after the summer season 2009 in order to make room for new attractions. For the summer season of 2010, the vacated area was straightened and built with new buildings. These form part of Kaiserplatz today and are home to the "Maus au Chocolat" attraction opened in 2011 and a souvenir shop and a conference and convention center since 2012. Sorry for the bad video and sound quality. The recordings are from a VHS videotape from the year 2001, which has been secured in the meantime on a DVD-R. Furthermore, the soundtrack, which is normally heard within the attraction, had to be completely muted for copyright reasons.
