Course Description As dentists and hygienists treating the gnathostomatic system, we have the educational foundation to assist patients experiencing temporomandibular disorders (TMD). However, these conditions are often multifactorial and can be challenging to diagnose and treat. This course will provide practical guidance for dentists and hygienists on evaluating patients presenting with signs and symptoms of TMD. Participants will learn how to establish a working diagnosis, consider appropriate treatment options, and determine when referral to a specialist may be indicated. Learning Objectives 1. Describe a systematic approach for evaluating patients with suspected temporomandibular disorders 2. Differentiate between intracapsular and extracapsular forms of TMD 3. Identify key patient history questions that aid in diagnosing TMD and parafunctional habits 4. Discuss treatment options for managing TMD, including short-term symptom management and long-term care strategies Presented by Dr. Eugene Santucci Sponsored by Kettenbach
