Crisis Zone Mame - Minor Performance Improvements (Namco System 23)
Not too long ago MooglyGuy (also known as TheMogMiner) made a pull request for mame that included minor performance improvements to all namco system 23 games - yup, even Crisis zone! Now don’t get too excited, the games inputs are still broken and the improvements only result in only about a 5-10% speed increase to NS23 games according to Mog himself, so this isn’t gonna be the 30-50% speed boost to get the game running at full speed that everyone’s been hoping for - however this is still great progress! I remember running time crisis 2 & Panic park on one of my other PCs that had a base CPU speed of about 4.8 GHz and both games were just on the cusp of running full speed but weren’t quite there. Try it out! If your namco system 23 games weren’t running quite at full speed they might just with this new build. Plus you can always try doing minor CPU overclocking which can also go a long way to making the games run smoother :) Download and extract the build-windows (gcc-x64) file from here (you’ll need to have a GitHub account to download) - https://github.com/mamedev/mame/pull/... When you unzip the file just be sure to create a folder inside the main directory called “roms” - then just drag and drop crisis zone and your other system 23 games in there and your good to go. In this video I show how fast my computer runs via Task-manager on the left which averages around 5.5-5.7 GHz as my PC runs on a i9-13900k CPU with the game running on the right in mame’s window mode. My CPU is pretty high end so this probably as fast as the game can run (without overclocking) at the moment on most gaming rigs - around 60-70% it’s full speed it seems. Big thanks to Mog and all the other awesome Mame devs for continuing to work on the namco system 23 emulation. Crazy to think that only a couple years most of these games didn’t even boot or would crash after playing them for not too long - now most of them are fully playable! We’ve come a long way huh? #crisiszone #timecrisis #mame #emulation #retro #lightgun
