DRAFT - Your care, your choice! A guide to Self-directed Support in East Lothian

This video explains the "Self-directed Support" options available in East Lothian to arrange and manage social care support for yourself, a relative or friend. Self‑directed Support is a national framework that gives you more choice and control over how you arrange and manage your care support. It has been designed so you can make decisions about how your care support can fit around your goals, strengths, and daily life. Self-directed Support is underpinned by the Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013. East Lothian’s Social Work Services have a legal obligation to inform you of the various options available. Our dedicated team of social work practitioners will guide you through the process to identifying care and support options to help you live as independently as possible at home. We want Self-directed Support to be: Easy to understand with clear information and simple processes. Flexible and shaped by what’s important to each person. Fair and inclusive so everyone can access support in a way that works for them. Respectful and empowering recognising people’s rights, independence, and individuality. A partnership, where people, carers, families and professionals work together. Our aim is to make Self‑directed Support a positive, empowering experience that helps people live well, stay connected, and achieve their own outcomes. Find out more at www.eastlothian.gov.uk/elhscp
