Sherpa Wedding, Ceremony, 21st Feb 2026 Part One

21st February 2026 – Kathmandu One of the greatest and most memorable days of our lives was the wedding ceremony of our beloved son Phinjok Sonam. 💐✨ Early in the morning, a sacred puja was performed by three lamas. At 7:00 AM, family and guests gathered at our home, and the Janti (groom’s family and friends) assembled. After breakfast, the wedding procession set out with a beautifully decorated groom’s car, a fully loaded Hilux jeep, three luxury buses, two Hiace vans, and several private cars carrying 115 members of the Janti to the bride’s home at Greenhill City. For the day’s ceremony, Ang Nuru took responsibility for looking after the groom. Upon arrival at the bride’s residence, we were warmly welcomed and seated. The ceremony began with Mola, the traditional introduction between the two families. This was followed by singing and dancing, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere. After lunch, both families exchanged Khatas in the Karta Yangjin ceremony, symbolizing mutual respect and agreement. The couple then received blessings from the elders during Gyen Kutup, where ghee was placed on their heads and the bride and groom exchanged rings and sindur, marking their union. Later, the Sili dance was performed to express gratitude and say farewell to the bride’s family. The Janti then joyfully escorted the newly married couple in a procession back to the groom’s home. Upon arrival, the Janti performed the Dungchyang ceremony. Soon after, close relatives from the bride’s side arrived at the groom’s home carrying the dauri and gifts, and they also performed their Dungchyang offering. The evening continued with a family dinner followed by the Phemar cutting ceremony with a champagne toast. The celebrations concluded with lively Subaru traditional dances and DJ dancing, making it a joyful and unforgettable evening for everyone.
