# 1 Santa Clara Creek Flash Flooding - 21 Aug 2011 - First Water Run Off

On Sunday afternoon on 21 August 2011, heavy rains over the Las Conchas burn scar resulted in the first of many flash flooding of the Santa Clara Pueblo Canyon. This video is the first in a series of severe flash floods in the canyon which travels through the community of Santa Clara Pueblo for the next few years. The Las Conchas Wildland Fire started on the 26 of June, 2011 when a electrical power line was hit by a falling tree. It would grow to be the largest wildland fire in the Southwest at this time. The fire was final declared controlled on 03 August 2011. This was the largest wildland fire in the Southwest at this time. This fire destroyed 63 homes and 49 outbuilding and continues to endangers our community for years to come through flash flooding. These film clips were taken from New Mexico State Road 30 and Santa Clara Pueblo Creek. This film shows the power and dangers of a flash flood in a normal slow flowing waterway.
