Banff National Park, Canada's oldest national park, was formerly known as Hot Springs Reserve. Stretching along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, it is a park of numerous lakes, mountains, and glaciers. The mountain slopes are covered in dense conifer forests, but as the altitude increases, the trees diminish, leaving the summit barren and rocky.
