Llega a la Ciudad MÁS REMOTA de TAYIKISTÁN
Khujand, Tajikistan's second-largest city, is one of the oldest settlements in Central Asia. Founded—according to tradition—by Alexander the Great as Alexandria Escate, its history unfolds along the banks of the Syr Darya River, in a fertile oasis that for centuries was a vital stop for caravans on the Silk Road. Unlike Dushanbe, here one senses an older, more Eastern spirit, closer to the classical Persian world. The place where this character is best perceived is the bazaar, one of the largest covered markets in the region. It is an explosion of colors and aromas: mountains of spices, dried fruits, round loaves of bread decorated with traditional seals, shimmering fabrics, and voices mingling in a constant bustle. This market was, for centuries, a nerve center of trade between Persia, China, and Turkestan, and today it remains alive, vibrant, modernized, and the social heartbeat of the city. On a hill overlooking the city lies Victory Park, one of Khujand's most significant green spaces. There stands a monument dedicated to the Soviet victory in World War II: an eternal flame, sculptures of soldiers, and plaques commemorating those who fell in the Fergana Valley. More than just a memorial site, the park offers panoramic views that allow one to appreciate the city's strategic position between the mountains and the river. In the afternoon, as the sun sets over the fertile plain, the park fills with families and young people enjoying the breeze and the tranquility. Victory Park is also a gateway to the Soviet legacy that still shapes much of urban life. Wide streets, grand avenues, concrete public buildings, and a layout designed for collective movement still define the daily rhythm. Unlike other Central Asian cities, where Soviet symbols have been quickly removed, Khujand maintains a more natural relationship with its past. It neither displays nor hides it: it simply coexists with it. The monumental aesthetic, commemorative plaques, and the presence of veterans at public events demonstrate that Soviet memory remains an active part of the local cultural fabric. The Khujand Fortress, partially reconstructed but imposing, recalls the times when the city defended the strategic Fergana Valley. Next to it, the Historical Museum displays a remarkable collection: Hellenistic coins, Persian ceramics, medieval armor, and everyday objects that narrate a cultural continuity spanning more than two thousand years. Here, history is not just a discourse; it is a visible archive. The city is warmer, flatter, and greener than Dushanbe. The climate allows for a more open lifestyle: parks filled with families, simple cafes along the riverbank, and folk music blaring from makeshift speakers. Summer nights are particularly lively, with groups of young people chatting in illuminated squares and children playing until late. The architecture reveals successive layers: Soviet-era buildings, recent mosques, and old alleyways that still retain mud-brick houses. Khujand doesn't try to impress, but it captivates with its authenticity. In its streets, you can feel a cultural continuity that has survived invasions, changes of empire, and modern political reorganizations. The inhabitants of Khujand often consider themselves different from the rest of the country: more merchant-like, more urban, more connected to the valley's ancestral history. Their identity is marked by a quiet pride, which is felt in the way they speak of the bazaar, their river, their Hellenistic past, and their poets. Khujand is a gateway to the historical soul of Tajikistan. A place where the past isn't on display: it simply exists, is breathed in, and coexists with daily life. For those seeking to understand the true essence of the country, this city offers an unforgettable lesson. #music #podcasts #vacation #streets #history #trains #information #newupload 🌎 Subtitles in Portuguese, Italian, German, French, Russian, and English.
