Explicando a Letra: De Chão Batido - Linha Campeira #90

"De chão batida" (De Ground Batido) is one of those songs that can't be missed at a baile gaúcho. It's a vaneira (a Brazilian dance) by João Alberto Pretto, Pedro Neves, and Martin Agnoletto. While many people know the versions by Monarcas and Serranos, it was first recorded in September 1992 by Grupo Renascença, on the vinyl album "De Chão Batido" (De Chão Batido), and was track 1 on side A. I'd like to thank my partner Leandro Cunha and Sidnei Leite "the Canudo" for confirming this information about the album. Let's get to the music now, shall we? In the wild, dancing women of the back of the field The bellows and tranco are welcomed I'm sure you've heard it before: "Enxuga bailanta de fundo de campo" (Dry dance women of the back of the field). This shows that it's a very traditional, old-fashioned baile de campo. The term "xucro" appears here as something simple, without much luxury. Fole (fole) refers to the bellows of a harmonica, and tranco (tranco) refers to the rhythm of the music, the beat. Bueno is the term used to say that things are synchronized, that they are welcomed. This term is well used by the rural gaucho community when referring to things that are together, united. The Indian pumps his boot, And destiny gallops in a furious dream. Pumping his boot is a very good observation that serves to show that the dance was getting lively. The gaucho banging his boot to the rhythm of the dance. And destiny is open on this night of dancing. Let it go, furious, without destiny, without control. Polvadeira rises amidst the swaying. How beautiful the rodeo of beautiful Chinese women is. Polvadeira is the dust that rises while the people dance. Sarandeio is the movement of the prendas' dresses. And rodeo here means to circle, to spin. The beautiful women dance, spinning their dresses, raising the dust from the ground. Those who have a hard life and mature ideas With a sip of pure spirits, the soul beats. Those from the countryside, with hard work and focused ideas. Arrive at the dance and take a sip of pure cachaça that makes the soul beat. They feel clean and light for the fandango. Atavistic surungo on the dirt floor Xucrismo seasoned in the past And this chorus is sung in reverse and wrong by many people. I've heard: "A tarde num surungo" and also "Atraco num surungo." But the truth is atavistic. Atavism is a biological characteristic, where a certain characteristic reappears in a person of the same family generations later. But for us, it has the meaning of being earthy, rooted, nostalgic, autochthonous. Surungo, by definition, would be a simple, popular dance. "Dumped floor" is because the floor is made of dirt. And it is because of this characteristic that polvadeira is raised. A well-worn Xucrismo would be the essence of all the work these country folk do. Tarca is a piece of equipment we use to count animals. Tarca do tempo would be the passing of the years. Just like a country man and his life experience. Recreating winters of lost desires And saddle life on the back of the wind Recreating winters is gathering the things that are lost in life. To saddle on the back of the wind, that is, to give direction and meaning to your story. It's part of the world of the country man Dancing arrogantly on the weekend Dancing arrogantly is dancing proudly, cheerfully. The gaucho leans on the arms of the Chinese And pokes his fate with a drop of sugarcane Arrimar is to steady oneself, to hold on, tightly clinging to the arms of one's beloved. China, there's a special video about this term. It's here on the card and in the related videos at the end too. Just be at a fandango in our Rio Grande do Sul To see how this gaucho bond grows. This pure truth that knows no age. It's our identity withstanding the pressure. It ends with this incredible verse that shows what a gaucho dance is all about. It strengthens the bond, shows the love for tradition, for our culture. And a gaucho dance has no age; it's a celebration for everyone.
