Cold Start of the old Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit...

Hello and welcome back to Automotive Tales. Today we're taking a first look at our Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and waking it from a 6 month slumber with a cold start, a very cold start. So we're starting to get her up and running ready for Spring. We did this last year and only achieved one outing, but we're hoping 2021 we can get more use from the RR. What you're looking at here is a very early, 1981, Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, with the characteristic SZ chassis that ran under both the Rolls-Royce and Bentley brands from 1980 right through until the last of the Bentley Turbo RT models in 1999 - 19 years is a long time for any chassis to stay in production! She has the obligatory 6 and three quarter litre v8, with twin SU carbs and a 3 speed GM gearbox, now running full stainless steel exhaust pipes (as mild steel units were unavailable last spring when we needed to replace the exhaust for the MOT). We're giving her a cold start to warm her through and check everything is in order, specifically the Citroen derived hydraulic suspension which worked a charm as you will see in the video Check back for more updates on the Rolls-Royce as we have a few issues to address before the spring/summer season is upon us, and we'll do a bit about the trip we took the car on to Le Mans and the chaos that went with it!
