Get your baby sitting in 4 steps.
4 Steps to Sitting: ~ We have to address trunk restrictions before anything else. Please watch my AKAP stretch highlights on Instagram or the AKAP stretch playlist on YouTube. Hold only the the “easy” side for three minutes. Try this everyday for all three positions. Should take 10 minutes. ~ We have to get your child using their hands. I have an entire “hands” highlight section on Instagram. You may have to use immobilizers to start and you can read how to order in the immobilizer highlights. Easier if you place yoga mat on kitchen table and sit in front of them. ~ If your child is 7 months you can work on standing by leaning forward. The. When they sit on your lap hold one hand at their pelvis (waistband) and teach them to hold themselves up and not “go back.” Change the tone of your voice to note positive and negative reactions (like throwing back). ~ If your child has trunk restrictions, side sitting may be difficult at first. That’s why we start with stretching for at least a week. Then get a balance pad (in amazon storefront) and bring the surface up to the child. You may need to use arm immobilizers while your child gets used to bearing weight through hands. ~ Remember, there is an order on my page if your child is struggling with gross motor skills: 1. always start with AKAP stretch 2. Learn about the TLR reflex in my reflex highlights. 3. Head control must come first. 4. Lastly, watch the highlight on Instagram associated with the gross motor skills you are working on. This will go on the sitting highlight. ~ Will you share with parents that may be struggling to help their child sit? Ask me your questions below and I’ll try my best to get to all of them. ~ #nicu #babydevelopment #sitting #physicaltherapy
