CDD Gegantina Fig Tasting Review (II) 12-12-24
Extremely sweet CDD Gegantina came close second to the sweetest fig in my collection. Brix of 50.5. Two weeks after the first review, this variety impressed me with ability to hang on the tree to the point of drying. Sugar content was increased, but also the flavor was intensified, causing a nuttiness that reminded me of dry dates. Again, with a hint of vanilla. Very nice berry tones mixed with black mulberry and thick acacia like honey. Dryness caused it to have crunchy skin, and very dry, jam - like pulp. What I describe as Fig candy. Ripened inside of grow room, with outside temperature in the mid-teens, with lowest of 11F. ( SE Michigan, zone 6b). @backyardfigs
