Widely read by those not only following the Sunni school of thought. The Book of Al-Hikam is The work of Sheikh Ibn Atha'illah, the third master of the Syadziliyah Order. The first founder of the Syadziliyah was Sheikh Abu Hasan Ali Ash-Syadzili, a Moroccan who later settled in Alexandria, Egypt, and died in 1258 CE. His successor was Sheikh Abu Abbas Al-Mursi, a native of Murcia, Andalusia, Spain (died in 1287 CE), who was succeeded by Sheikh Ibn Atha'illah. Sheikh Ibn Atha'illah lived in Egypt during the Mamluk Dynasty. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and later moved to Cairo. There, he spent his life teaching Maliki Islamic jurisprudence at various intellectual institutions. Ibn Atha'illah was considered a prolific scholar, having produced no fewer than 20 works. The work covers the fields of Sufism, tafsir, aqidah, hadith, nahwu, and ushul fiqh.
