They Let Me Swim in Their Backyard Koi Pond… Here’s Why That’s Actually a GOOD Thing

This koi pond is framed like a Japanese garden… and when those pocket doors open up to the view, it’s pure MAGIC. Today I’m vlogging with Byron from Streamworks for the first time, and our first stop is a brand new (only 3 months old) Aquascape ecosystem koi pond makeover. The homeowners had an old liner pond from the 90s—no real waterfall, “green soup” vibes—and they trusted Byron and his team to strip it down to bare bones and rebuild it into a backyard resort. WHAT’S IN THIS BUILD: 20’ x 15’ ecosystem koi pond (4’ deep) Giant fish cave / tunnel (built for BIG koi!) Raised 8’ x 10’ wetland filter with clean-out snorkel Intake bay with 8 large AquaBlox + 2 large pumps 4’ high waterfall with wider natural-looking splits Floating steppers across the intake bay Walkability + viewing from EVERY angle (deck, pool deck, covered patio) Biggest challenge? Getting FOUR truckloads of boulders + materials through a tight gate in the middle of February—wet, cold, snowy—and protecting the lawn with rig matting. Worth it. COST TALK: A pond like this (20x15 + 4’ waterfall) is typically in the $75,000–$80,000 range… and patio/planting/walkways are additional.
