Georg Friedrich Handel Amadigi di Gaula HWV 11 Penna Tiranna Orchestra Accompaniment + Voice / Solo Score Amadigi di Gaula is an opera by Georg Friedrich Händel (HWV 11) based on a 1699 chivalric play by the writer Antoine Houdar de La Motte called Amadis de Gaula. The libretto is by an author not yet agreed upon, since John Jacob Heidegger was recognized as this one, although Giacomo Rossi or Nicola Francesco Haym have also been considered as possible authors. Handel's work premiered on May 25, 1715 at Her Majesty's Theater in London, with the famous castrato Nicolò Grimaldi in its original performance. The opera was met with great acclaim, being performed seventeen times in London and a similar number of times in Hamburg under a different title, Oriana.
