Launching My Floating Farm: What Will The Locals Think? | Growing Wild: Project Castaway - Part 3/3
11 months ago Chris came up with an ambitious idea of constructing a floating farm at sea. Travelling to different coastal communities globally, he and his team of students from the National University of Singapore and Institute of Technical Education talked to fisherman, farmers, marine ecologists and environmental scientists. From pen to paper, ideation to fabrication, they refined their design over and over again. Now it’s make or break time - in 30 days, they have to construct and launch Project Castaway in the waters off Bum Bum Island in Semporna, Malaysia. And launching it is not the biggest test – convincing the locals in Bum Bum Island to take it on is! 00:00 Previously on Project Castaway 00:58 New design for sea trials 02:09 Recap: What we learned in 11 months 05:41 Final design of our floating farm 09:26 Buying things from the mainland 12:13 The farm comes together 13:44 Moving plants into their new home 16:30 5 days to project launch 18:29 Towing the farm into position 21:58 Making plant fertiliser and animal feed 24:41 Propagating seaweed, oysters, sea grapes 28:02 "I thought this was a crazy idea" 29:56 Floating farms in Japan, Netherlands 33:36 Singapore Agriport for our future food security 37:00 Launch of the floating farm 40:14 First tour of the floating farm 42:29 A taste of the farm's produce 44:15 Reflections on the project ========= About the show: Growing Wild S3 will plant some ideas about how we can not just grow food better but also safeguard the environment at the same time.
