I witnessed the ancient Anatolian tradition of the Yörük migration—this time in its purest and most arduous form. Joining the Çetin family from the village of Sarılar in Kaş, we set out with hundreds of sheep and goats toward the Subaşı Plateau in Gömbe. During this challenging yet enchanting two-day journey, I became a companion to Dilek—the family’s cheerful and hardworking daughter; we walked alongside the herd, sharing the road and our stories. The journey didn't end upon reaching the highlands. I spent another two days living just like a Yörük with the Çetin family at the Subaşı Plateau. From waking up at the first light of dawn and tending to the animals to navigating the hardships of tent life and embracing the unique serenity of the highlands, I touched the heart of Yörük culture and experienced this extraordinary way of life firsthand.
