Leinsweiler is a local community in the Südliche Weinstraße district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde of Landau-Land, within which it is the smallest local community in terms of population. Leinsweiler is a wine town and a state-recognized resort. In Leinsweiler there is evidence of settlement as early as the Paleolithic period (handaxe from Leinsweiler). The name Leinsweiler came about when a Franconian king gave the place as a fief to a baroness named Landswinda, who was sung at the Franconian court for her beauty. Leinsweiler was mentioned as “Lantsindewilare” in the Codex Edelini when it was expropriated from the Weißenburg monastery in 985 during the Salian church robbery. Until the end of the 18th century, Leinsweiler belonged to Palatinate-Zweibrücken. From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then the Napoleonic Empire, Leinsweiler was incorporated into the canton of Annweiler and was subordinate to the Mairie Albersweiler. In 1815 the community had 400 residents. In the same year the location was added to Austria. Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria and in 1817 to the canton of Landau. From 1818 to 1862 Ramberg was a member of the Landau Land Commissioner; The Landau district office emerged from this. From 1939 the place was part of the Landau district. After the Second World War, Leinsweiler became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone. As part of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate, Leinsweiler moved to the newly created Landau-Bad Bergzabern district on June 7, 1969, which was renamed the Südliche Weinstrasse district in 1978. In 1972 the community was assigned to the newly formed Verbandsgemeinde of Landau-Land. In 1988, Leinsweiler was awarded “The Beautiful Winegrowing Village” in the German Wine Route competition.
