Cours Spé SVT 1eres - Le cancer

First-year high school biology (new curriculum) specialization lesson on cancer. Third video in the series "Genetic Variations and Health". Outline: A) The transformation of cells into cancer B) The multifactorial origin of cancer C) Fighting cancer Curriculum concepts covered: Changes in the genome of somatic cells occur during an individual's life through spontaneous mutations or mutations induced by a mutagen or certain viral infections. These changes can give rise to a cell line whose uncontrolled proliferation leads to cancer. We also know of inherited genetic factors that modify an individual's susceptibility to different types of cancer. Understanding the causes of a type of cancer allows us to consider protective measures (avoiding mutagens, regular monitoring according to age, vaccination), treatments (medications, gene therapy, for example), and cures. -Fundamental concepts: mutations, carcinogenesis, risk factors. -Objectives: students acquire fundamental knowledge about the development of cancers, their origins, and their various forms. They understand that identifying the origin of certain cancers allows for the implementation of public health measures.
