The Story of the Grand Hotel, Scarborough
The Grand Hotel in Scarborough was opened in 1867 and, at that time, was one of the UK’s best hotels. It has an illustrious past, surviving both world wars and several owners. Now in the hands of Britannia Hotels, this icon of the North Yorkshire coast has seen better days. It’s a building that’s always fascinated me and in this video I look through the history of the hotel, including its construction, ownership by Butlins and what it looks like now. Could it have a better future in the age of the “Staycation”?
