There are aspects of daily life that aren't shown in documentaries or tourism campaigns about Cuba. There is a hidden reality that every Cuban has had to face. The shortages have profoundly deteriorated society, giving way to corruption, crime, envy, and other problems that have plagued us for years. We aspire for our children to have a better future, but many families end up separated by emigration to the United States and other countries, taking great risks in the hope of achieving a more dignified life. The economic restructuring has further complicated daily life, making purchasing food in markets and stores a nearly impossible task. Tourism, especially in Havana, has decreased alarmingly, and the situation is even more critical in the rest of the country.
