A wooden apartment renovation in Tokiwa, Urawa Ward, Saitama City, a popular educational district. The themes of this project were "performance improvement" and "preparation for the future." The apartment, which suffered from the harsh "cold from the ground" typical of apartments due to its location directly above a parking lot, was transformed into a stable thermal environment with warm floors even in winter through thorough insulation work. Furthermore, the project fulfilled the client's desire to "enjoy a comfortable life in this home in the near future," a desire they had recently shared with their elderly parents. A sofa was custom-built by the apartment's distinctive R-shaped window. This space, made possible by overcoming the cold through insulation, has become a gazebo-like gathering place where family and friends can come together and conversation naturally arises. The design also incorporates barrier-free features, such as a layout that considers wheelchair accessibility and a toilet accessible from both the hallway and the washroom, resulting in a high-quality design that makes extensive use of wood rather than a purely inorganic aesthetic. This renovation example demonstrates a vision for future homes, where "current comfort" translates into "future security."
